📰 21: Outlook for 2024, Performance, and What to Avoid
Estimated reading time: 5 minutes
Good morning and happy Sunday! This week I'm covering the unemployment rate, 2023 performance, and what I'm avoiding for 2024.
What's New
- I published the full 2023 annual letter. You can read it here.
- It's not really new, but I'm studying for the CFA. I thought readers would want to know. I'm also starting with the prerequisite readings as I do not have a background in finance. I imagine it'll take me more than the standard ~300 hours to pass each level, but that's still a good price for learning this stuff. I find the material very entertaining (so far). Wish me luck!
Portfolio Update
It's very early in the year/quarter. Here's what we have so far:
MTD % | QTD % | YTD % | 1 Year % | Since Inception % | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
S&P 500 | -1.50 | -1.50 | -1.50 | 22.58 | 5.71 |
Portfolio | -1.96 | -1.96 | -1.96 | 41.91 | 19.50 |
Results are annualized. Performance data is indicative and should not be considered as advice. S&P500 includes dividends reinvested. Inception date: 2022-04-18.
I'm still sitting on ~14% cash. If you have any investing ideas you want to share, please let me know.
I posted more of my long-form thoughts in the 2023 letter about my outperformance of the year. It's an extremely tricky situation. I suggest you read it. Link above in "What's New".
