☕ Seinfeld, Marcus Aurelius, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and the Bhagavad Gita
All have this one big thing in common.
🕉️ Authenticity
I read a beautiful Substack post the other day. You can check it out here:
One quote from Spencer leapt out and grabbed me by the neck:
“You have the right to work, but for the work’s sake only. You have no right to the fruits of work. Desire for the fruits of work must never be your motive in working. (…) Work done with anxiety about results is far inferior to work done without such anxiety, in the calm of self-surrender. (…) They who work selfishly for results are miserable.”
— Bhagavad Gita
📖 Ralph Waldo Emerson
Another one so seemingly in step:
“What I must do, is all that concerns me, not what the people think”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson
😅 Seinfeld does it best
But my favorite is probably from Jerry Seinfeld quoting Marcus Aurelius. Check it out:
If you want more of the good bits:
This is such a testament to stoicism. It’s one thing if you or I quote the stoics, but to see the best of the best in a realm of comedy (or truth-telling), it says something more I think.
These quotes have been on my mind lately: the focus on what’s in front of you, putting the work first, and not stressing about the rest.
